About the Redevelopment

The Myer Melbourne re-development

In 2007, Myer, under its new owners - Texas Pacific Group and the Myer Family - sold the Bourke St and Lonsdale Street premises to Colonial First State.

The sale of the Myer Melbourne buildings signalled the start of an exciting journey – the re-development of the company’s flagship store.

Upon completion in late 2009, Myer will deliver to the people of Melbourne and its customers a world-class shopping destination.

The entire Bourke Street store and the old Telecom building, which sits next to the current Bourke Street site, will form the new Myer Melbourne.

The store will include some of the biggest brands in the world across men’s and women’s apparel, beauty and electrical.

Dynamic installations and creative visual displays will create an inspiring shopping environment for customers - one that has never been seen before in Australia.

The new Myer Melbourne will also feature food offerings on each level as well as lounges for the weary customer to rest during a long day’s shopping.

The re-development will also combine the old and the new with the historic Mural Hall and the famous Myer Christmas windows to be retained and remain an integral part of the new store.

When the redevelopment is complete, Myer Melbourne will trade out of the one store on the Bourke Street site – seven floors in total.

The Lonsdale Street store site will be vacated at the completion of the re-development project. The Myer National Office, which currently occupies the top four floors of the Lonsdale Street building will re-locate to the fringe of Melbourne’s CBD at Docklands in 2010.

To ensure that the Myer Melbourne re-development will be completed on time, the developers will be closing large sections of the Bourke Street store from July 2008. Specifically, levels one through to five in the Bourke Street store will be closed until the new store is ready to open.

From 4 August, Myer Melbourne will trade out of the Basement and Ground Floor in Bourke Street store and all floors in the Lonsdale Street store.

We will be relocating the businesses in the Bourke Street store into the Lonsdale Street store, and therefore it will be ‘business as usual’ in the Lonsdale Street store and the bottom two floors of Bourke Street.

The only category that will not be available at the Myer Melbourne store during this stage of the re-development is furniture. However, Myer will stock a range of furniture in some of our other Victorian stores to ensure that our customers have access to our great range of furniture at their local Myer store.
